From Three Floors to Single-Floor Living
Working in the property industry isn’t just about selling or renting homes. Behind every door is a life and a story. Those stories are what we want to focus on. This series steps over the threshold with the buyers, sellers, tenants and landlords who’ve used Ferndown Estates and asks the only question that matters: why choose Ferndown Estates?
Why Mrs Cooper chose single-floor living
Selling your home is a life-changing decision. For Mrs Cooper, it was one of liberation. She lived in a three-bedroom, three-floor home that wasn’t friendly for her mobility — the constant worry of falling on the way from her kitchen on the ground floor to the living room and bedrooms upstairs had become a daily struggle. Moving to single-floor living made sense, but the decision wasn’t straightforward, and it took many months for her to finally decide to go ahead.
What she didn’t expect was how much the choice of estate agent would give her a newfound confidence.
In her own words: finding an agent she could trust
“When I finally decided to sell my property I was worried about inviting anyone into my home, even for the valuation. My home is my safe space, and allowing someone in to judge its worth was hard for me to mentally prepare for.
After many months of building the courage, I invited two agents out to value the property. The first agent came and was quite rude to me and made me feel like the house was a burden that I would struggle to sell. She was very pushy and, for me, it became very overwhelming. I was left feeling worried and deflated, like I had built myself up for nothing.
Ferndown Estates came round shortly after and, while I went into the day very nervous, Adam immediately put me at ease. Firstly, he sat with me and spoke to me about my situation, worries, wants and needs, which may sound simple, but to me meant I felt myself calming. He proceeded to walk round the house and give me his thoughts upfront with gentle kindness. While there were things for me to do, he reassured me that the house could be sold quickly. There was no push to list with them, and Adam even told me to speak to other agents. It all made me feel very hopeful.
I began making the suggested changes and soon was ready to list the property. Ferndown Estates was my first and only choice. Throughout the process, I never felt like I didn’t know what was going on. The team always updated me about the progress. Phone calls were never rushed, and I always felt like I was important to all team members.”
In her own words: from listing to moving day
“When viewings began, I gave the times and days I’d be available to vacate the property. Brian always called with feedback on the viewings, answering any questions I had. The property sold. After months of the buyer dragging their feet, we made the difficult decision to put the property back on the market. While this was scary, the team reassured us that it would sell quickly once more. Sure enough, it did!
This buyer worked with us and we finally got close to completion. Another setback loomed with the solicitors. But because Ferndown were experts in this field, Charlotte worked with mine and my buyer’s solicitors to come to a resolution quickly. We exchanged contracts, and I remember getting the call and just deflating. Knowing I was moving for definite filled me with such peace.
The day we completed and I got the keys to my new flat was just pure elation. When I came to drop off the keys to Ferndown Estates, I felt like the whole office were genuinely celebrating with me. It’s a really big thing for me that so many people were in my corner.
I felt like I was on cloud nine. My worries and fears melted away, and now I love living on one floor.
Some estate agents live up to the poor reputation, and others restore your faith in the industry. Ferndown Estates truly met and exceeded my expectations throughout the whole process. I would turn round and say I would advise anyone who was thinking of selling or buying to go with Ferndown. I would highly recommend — in fact, I have!”
